To prevent widespread of the #coronavirus outbreak, Government has declared 21 days lock down till 14 April 2020. This results in suspend of lectures at Universities, Colleges, and Schools across the country. The University Grant Commission (#UGC) & HRD Ministry asked students and teachers to take precautions, stay at home and urged to utilise this time productively by engaging in online learning. There are several #ICT Initiatives started by MHRD that can teach you for free!
Many students are confused regarding online learning and how to use these resources. Here is a list of various online learning platforms initiated by the #MHRD to study for free and steps how to utilize them during this lockdown period.
1. SWAYAM:
The courses delivered through SWAYAM are available free of cost, and to get SWAYAM certificate you should register for the final examination and attend in-person at allotted centers on specified dates. The courses hosted on SWAYAM are in 4 major parts – (1) Video lectures (2) Downloadable reading material (3) Self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes and (4) An online discussion forum for the doubts. How to use: Click on "COURSE CATALOG" option and select your required field of study, all relevant courses will get listed. Select the course and enjoy learning…!!!
2. SWAYAM Prabha:
The SWAYAM Prabha is a set of 32 DTH channels dedicated to telecasting of high-quality educational programmes on 24X7. The channel covers school education for classes 1 to 12 and higher education for (UG, PG, Engineering) vocational courses and teacher training. SWAYAM Prabha has higher education courses in arts, science, commerce, performing arts, social sciences and humanities subjects, engineering, technology, law, medicine, agriculture. How to use: Visit https://www.swayamprabha.gov.in/index.php/ch_allocation for channel and allocation. Channel numbers are given with their content. Visit the require channel any time and start learning.
3. NPTEL:
NPTEL is the largest online repository in the world of engineering, basic sciences and selected humanities and social sciences subjects. It has most popular YouTube channel also with 1.6 million+ channel subscribers. Professors from reputed engineering institutes like seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore delivers lectures. Also it provides NPTEL Certification with objective to make students employable in the industry or pursue a suitable higher education programme. How to use: Sign Up / Login with your Gmail id. Enroll yourself for the interested course. Course need to take as per predefined schedule, it is not self-paced. If confident, register for Certification exam. 4. NROER:
The National Repository of Open Educational Resources (NROER) is developed by CIET, NCERT. It is a collaborative platform, which brings together everyone interested in school and teacher education and it was launched during the National Conference on ICT for School Education. It contains many educational resources of many subjects and in different Indian languages for Primary, Secondary and Senior Secondary classes. Best part is all NCERT books are available in Flip book format. How to use: On Home page click on "Repository" option. You will see learning options like eBooks, eCourses, eLibrary etc. Click on required option and start learning.
5.e-PG Pathshala :
e-PG Pathshala is MHRD’s initiative under its National Mission on Education through ICT (NME-ICT). It provides 700+ e-Books through e-Adhyayan, Online Courses through UGC MOOCs and software driven course / content package through e-Pathya for variety of PG courses How to use: On Home Page Click on Student Corner tab. Many course/subjects will be dropped down. Select the courses/subject you are interested in. After clicked on course/subject required Paper and Module from that Paper can be selected. Content will be available in E-text and Video format.
6. National Digital Library of India :
It is a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. The repository is storing around 10 million items authored by almost 3 lakh authors. How to use: During this Corona lockdown period, to study through NDLI, follow the steps as mentioned in below image.
7. CEC-UGC YouTube channel:
CEC is one of the Inter University Centers set up by the University Grants Commission of India. It provides access to educational curriculum based lectures completely free.
8. V-Lab :Under this project over 100 Virtual Labs consisting of approximately 700+ web-enabled experiments were designed for remote-operation and viewing. Virtual Labs do not require any additional infrastructural setup for conducting experiments at user premises. The simulations-based experiments can be accessed remotely via Internet.
9.Spoken Tutorial :
Spoken Tutorial won many awards for their well organised educational content. Here one can learn various Free and Open Source Software all by oneself. Courses are self-paced, multi-lingual which ensure that anyone with a computer and a desire for learning, can learn from any place, at any time and in a language of their choice. How to use: Select the required course along with language, you get small course listed. Select the required module and enjoy learning
10. Vidwan :
VIDWAN is the top top-notch database of profiles of scientists / researchers and other faculty members working at leading academic institutions and other Indian research organisations. It provides information about expert's background, address, experience, scholarly publications, skills and accomplishments, etc. This portal is very useful for information exchanges and networking opportunities among scientists. How to use: You need to register on this portal to utilize all features.
